Toes In The Sand

Dress: Emily and Fin (ModCloth)
Sunglasses: ModCloth
Shoes: Sam Edelman (Bloomingdales)

Well, hello, again. It’s been a while! In fact, these photos were taken about two months ago when I was on vacation in Baja (again). As you might guess, the time in between then and now has been a little crazy. Okay, really fucking crazy.  But let’s forget about that and talk about vacation. It was fun and relaxing and everything that I needed at the time. I soaked up every minute of sunshine and tried to avoid wearing anything more than a bikini and sunglasses. But when it came time to finally put on clothes, I stayed true to my beach style and kept it simple. On this particularly hot evening, a cotton dress kept me cool as I watched the sunset. And I swear that I eventually put on shoes; they just didn’t make it into the photos! (You can see them here on Instagram though.)

Shirt: J.Crew
Pants: Elevenses (Anthropologie)
Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell
Bag: Made by my friend, Adiel

There are some things that are too good to buy just one. For example, when I find a pair of jeans that fits perfectly and with the perfect amount of stretch, you can bet on me buying more than one pair. A reasonably priced pair of shoes that goes with everything not to mention comfortable also falls into that category. And when we're talking about this pair of shoes, I might buy three pairs… Okay, I did but three pairs — gray, black and this floral pair, which is definitely my favorite of the bunch. The print is cheerful without being cutesy, and I can always count on them to add the perfect pop to a neutral outfit. But my favorite way to wear them is definitely with another print. This isn’t the first time I’ve paired them with these floral pants, and it certainly won’t be the last!

Shirt: Kate Spade
Skirt: Topshop (Nordstrom)
Boots: Dolce Vita (Shopbop)
Bag and Bracelets: Marc by Marc Jacobs

Until this day, this skirt was one of those pieces that managed to elude outfit photos every single time I wore it. Something always kept me from snapping this skirt — early meetings, rain, maybe even my inability to get out the door on time — so when I found myself with time for photos, I quickly decided to wear this skirt. It’s been a closet favorite from the second it was delivered. I’m a sucker for photorealistic prints, and I just can't get enough of this one. Not to mention the shape is super flattering and comfortable at the same time, and it has pockets. What’s not to love?

And because I can’t lie (like, not at all), I have to point out that this skirt was actually photographed once before, just not for Style by Santina. A few months ago, I wore it for a Refinery29 photo shoot that took place at my office. If you’re interested in seeing where I spend my days, check out the feature!

Jeans And A (Silk) Tee

Shirt: Theyskens’ Theory
Jeans: Current/Elliott (Nordstrom)
Shoes: Kate Spade
Rings: Marc by Marc Jacobs
Bag: Made by Adiel
Sunglasses: Saint Laurent (a gift)

After too many long weeks, I’ve been feeling a bit tired and my outfits have reflected that more than I’d like. Feeling tired and stressed used to lead me to feel good outfits — dresses that make a girl want to twirl and sky high heels — just as often as it did sweatshirts and jeans. Lately, my need for comfort has completely taken over. And what’s more comfortable than a t-shirt and jeans? Almost nothing. So I put together a work appropriate spin on the easy combination with a silk tee and silver heels. I might be stocking up on silk tees in the near future… I want to wear them almost as often as sweatshirts!

Slouchy Chic

Shirt: J.Crew
Pants: Clover Canyon
Necklace: Marc by Marc Jacobs
Shoes: Kate Spade
Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs

I want to wear an outfit like this one every day. Seriously, every day. It really doesn’t get much more comfortable than drawstring pants and a sweatshirt, and the combination also has that slouchy cool appeal that I can’t resist. I bought the pants and this sweatshirt on the same shopping trip, and when I got home and unpacked my haul, I realized I unknowingly purchased an outfit that was sure to be a new favorite. And, it totally is.

When it came to accessories, I considered something neutral to pair with the bold print of the pants. But then I was reminded of Todd Selby, who recently visited my office to discuss his latest book Fashionable Selby. He admitted to subscribing to a “more is more” aesthetic at an early age, and his latest book is a tribute to his appreciation for the eccentric. And as I listened to him speak of these amazingly unique individuals, I felt inspired to push it a little more. So when I turned to my closet, I decided to wear silver shoes and a metallic blue bag (that almost matches my hair). Have I mentioned that I love this outfit?

Peter Pilotto for Target

Shirt: J.Crew
Skirt: Peter Pilotto for Target
Tights: DKNY (Nordstrom Rack)
Shoes: Dolce Vita (Shopbop)
Bag: Kate Spade
Necklaces: H&M and Forever 21
Ring: Mira Mira
Sunglasses: Saint Laurent

I wore this outfit a few weeks back to a birthday brunch for one of my best friends. I wanted to wear something fun but nothing that would upstage the birthday girl, and this skirt was the first thing that popped into my mind. I picked it up on a whim on a trip to Target. It was one of the items that I liked but decided against when shopping the Peter Pilotto for Target collection online because I wasn’t sure about the fit. When I tried it on, I was pleasantly surprised that it fit so well - done! I love the mixed prints and interesting construction and wanted to allow them to be the focus, so I paired it with neutrals – black, white and gray. When it came to accessories, I layered on a few colorful necklaces and grabbed my winking clutch. It’s always a hit!

Life Lately

Last week was crazy busy. I’m pushing toward a launch at work, and since it was my birthday last week, I decided to live it up a bit. Between work and actually having a life, I didn’t find much time for outfit photos. Of course, I always have time to snap a quick pic with my phone, so I thought I’d share a few here. And, if you don’t want to miss out on the fun, be sure to follow me on Instagram!

From left to right starting at the top:
I finally made time for a little shopping and popped into my favorite boutique, Mira Mira. It was a tough decision, but I went with the silver kitty. // I was lucky enough to check out the new Nordstrom Rack on Market St a few days before it officially opened, and these loafers were part of my haul. // I left work early on my birthday and was greeted by a beautiful, summer-like evening. The boyfriend and I took advantage and went for a sunset stroll through Golden Gate Park before heading out to dinner and drinks. // Yes another new pair of shoes. And with this gray pair, I have these shoes in three colors. // I headed over to Benefit headquarters for a fun Lookmazing event and got a mini makeover. Adiel and I couldn’t resist snapping a few pics with our fresh makeup! // I cannot get enough Mezcal right now. This cilantro and Mezcal cocktail at Padrecito is one of my favorites! // After telling myself I’d stop buying shoes, I did this. Oops. // After a day of outlet shopping with a girlfriend, we came back to the city just in time to cross the Bay Bridge at sunset. It was absolutely beautiful and made me feel all warm and fuzzy with love for San Francisco. // No lazy Sunday morning is complete without a pic of Sombrita. How cute does she look napping in a spot with half sun and half shade?

A Test

As anyone who knows me will tell you, I’m a total perfectionist. I have a difficult time accepting mistakes, and I’ve been told more times than I can count that I’m hypercritical of myself…even when it comes to my nails. (It may be true.) And while this manicure garnered a number of compliments, I really don’t like it. The design had potential and I like the color combination, however, I did not execute it well. But, I forced myself to keep it for an entire week, just to prove that I can live with imperfection and I made it! I might try this design again but definitely not soon - I need to go with a sure thing next week!

Happy Friday!

T-Shirt Dress

Dress: Uzi (Mira Mira)
Necklace: All Saints
Boots: Dolce Vita (Shopbop)
Rings: Mira Mira
Clutch: A gift

When I saw this dress at Mira Mira, I knew it would come home with me. I don’t know what it is about sack dresses, but I love them. And, because I’m tall, I like to think I can pull them off. This one is basically an oversized t-shirt made of the loveliest cotton, and I can see myself wearing it with everything, everywhere. For my first time wearing it I kept it simple and paired it with booties. And right now, well, it’s like there are no other booties in my closet. Seriously, I cannot stop wearing this pair! I kept with the neutral theme and opted for this clear clutch, which was made my awesome and amazingly talented friend, Adiel. Yes, you read that correctly. She made it. How rad is it?

Neoprene And Leather

Sweatshirt: Rebecca Minkoff
Jeans: Current/Elliott (Nordstrom)
Boots: Dolce Vita (Shopbop)
Bag: Proenza Schouler (Barneys)
Sunglasses: Chanel

There are few things I love more than a good sweatshirt. My ever-growing collection has been well documented here on the blog, and I seem to convince myself that there is an appropriate way to wear them for almost every occasion. This one has quickly become a weekend and office favorite. The mix of neoprene and leather make it feel luxe, especially compared to the much more casual cotton varieties. Paired with a pencil skirt and heels, it’s perfect for the office. And when the weekend rolls around, well, I go with looks like this one. It’s my attempt at that effortless, cool girl style that I love so much.

What’s your go-to sweatshirt look?

Stripes On Stripes

OPI Need Sunglasses? // Essie Mezmerised // Sally Hansen White On //  Kiss Brush On Nail Art Paint in Black

While I’ve been slacking when it comes to nail posts (okay, all posts), my nails have not been bare. There have been quite a few designs that I wanted to share but didn’t take photos before I inevitably chipped the manicure. I would not let that happen with this one. I am obsessed with this design!

In the mood to try something new, I hit up a few of my favorite nail art blogs for inspiration. I spotted this one on Miss Ladyfinger and knew I had to give it a try. How could I resist all those stripes even if I was a bit intimidated? I’m not a fan of red nail polish, so I swapped the red stripe for a blue one but otherwise copied it exactly. The result is definitely a new favorite.

What do you think of this manicure?

Remember when I used to blog about my manicure every week? Well, I’m really hoping to bring back weekly nail art posts, and I’m happy to kick it off with this manicure. I had admired the distressed look that results from the dry brush technique for a while and decided to finally give it a try to see if it’s as easy as I’d heard. It is. There is almost no way to fuck this up. It’s my new go-to design when I’m short on time. (Move over polka dots!)

For this manicure, I applied a base coat and then two coats of silver polish. Once that dried, I used a sponge to add a gradient with gold polish. Then the dry technique: I removed almost all polish from the brush so that it was almost dry and applied uneven swipes of polish. To finish it off, I swiped on my favorite topcoat.

What do you think?

Shirt: Something Else by Natalie Wood (Mira Mira)
Jeans: Current/Elliott (Nordstrom)
Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell (Shoe Biz)
Bag: See by Chloe (a gift)

I’ll just come right out and say it: I can be a little bit of a prick sometimes. On a good day I’m as sarcastic as they come, but give me a week that won’t end, not a lot of sleep and a touch of a hangover, and what many people would consider part of my charm becomes a little less endearing. And this shirt is perfect for those days! I mean, at least I warn people…

This bag has been in heavy rotation lately because my laptop bag broke, and this is one of the only bags in my closet that can hold my laptop. I forgot how much I love this bag; I remember being so excited when I opened it up one Christmas many years ago! It’s a little like being reunited with an old friend. All that said, I really need a new laptop bag – any recommendations? I’d love to hear them!

I'm back!

Sweater: Elizabeth and James (Nordstrom)
Jeans: Current/Elliott (Nordstrom)
Boots: Dolce Vita (Shopbop)
Bag and Rings: Marc by Marc Jacobs

Look who’s back to blogging – this girl!

And with a new hair color! Let’s jump right in and talk about my hair, because I love it. I had been debating blue for a while before I finally pulled the trigger. I went into the salon with a dozen photos of pastel blue shades, but my hair stylist confirmed what the little voice in the back of my head had already told me a million times. Those lovely pastel blues last, like, three washes. So, I went with something darker and I already love how it’s fading with each wash.

As for the outfit, it’s a typical Monday outfit for me. Boyfriend jeans? Check. Comfortable shoes? Check. And…a black cloud? That sounds about right.
