Summer In SF

Pants: Club Monaco

Bracelets: Marc by Marc Jacobs
Ring: BCBG
Shoes: Nine West
Bag: L.A.M.B. (Nordstrom Rack)

Cashmere in July? Yes, friends, it’s summer in San Francisco! Windy but warm and sunny days have been replaced by fog…and more fog. I’ll admit that in a way I love the fog. It’s so San Francisco, and I do love this city. But at the same time I have no interest in wearing a fucking sweater in July. Sigh. At least it’s neon?

Also, I am honored to be featured on The StyleUp Blog in the Modern Icon series. I don’t often talk about myself here on the blog, so it was fun to answer a few questions that are completely unrelated to fashion. Head over to the post and learn more about my job, favorite spots to eat and shop in SF, and how long it really takes me to do my nails.

The Weekend Look

Shirt: Current/Elliott (Nordstrom Rack)

Pants: Current/Elliott (Nordstrom)
Tank: Michael Stars (Nordstrom)
Shoes: Modern Vintage (Gilt)
Necklaces: Marc by Marc Jacobs and Sheila B Jewelry (Mira Mira)
Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs
Sunglasses: Ray Ban (Saks)

It’s with no shame that I admit to wearing this outfit all weekend long. It might be the perfect weekend outfit…especially for a cold and foggy “summer” weekend. This shirt has been in heavy rotation ever since I bought it; I wear it at least once a week. Pairing it with my new boyfriend jeans created an irresistibly slouchy outfit. To keep it casual but still put together, I added blue suede heels and gold accessories, including two of my favorite necklaces.

Black And White Puzzle Manicure

Sally Hansen White On // Sephora by OPI What's a Tire Jack?
After taking a break from black and white manicures last week, I was ready for another one this week. I broke out my favorite black and white polishes, but before I settled in to start painting, I did a quick Google search for “black and white manicures”. As I scrolled through endless images, I spotted this design and knew I had found a winner. Not only am I obsessed with the design but it’s also very easy to apply. I considered doing a step-by-step tutorial to share on the blog, but I had to move quickly to be finished in time for True Blood (priorities, people). I’ll definitely do this design again, so perhaps next time? Are nail tutorials something you’d like to see on Style by Santina? Let me know in the comments!

The New Jeans

Shirt: Clover Canyon (Moda Operandi)

Jeans: Current/Elliott (Nordstrom)
Shoes: Modern Vintage (Gilt)
Rings: Nordstrom
Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs

I hate shopping for jeans. Hate, hate, hate it. It’s an activity that has brought me to tears (and then a bar) more times than I’d like to admit. And for the record, I am not a crier. So, when I find a good pair of jeans, I wear them to the death. And that’s exactly what I did with my last pair until the sad day when I realized that I was one step away from splitting the crotch…and then I wore them a few more times just to tempt fate. After a few failed shopping trips, I spotted this pair while shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale online. Of course, I promised myself I’d only shop for sale items and these jeans were not on sale, but this was an emergency – ahem, fashion - emergency situation. And, after falling in love with this shirt, a pair of Current/Elliott jeans was high on my list. I am obsessed with them. I love the slimmer boyfriend cut and the denim is thick but still super soft. I could not be happier to have found my new everyday jeans!

Track Pants

Shirt: Kate Spade
Pants: Club Monaco
Watch: Michael Kors  (Nordstrom)
Necklaces: Forever 21 and H&M
Shoes: Alexander Wang (Barneys)
Bag: Proenza Schouler (Barneys)

I had my eye on these trousers for a while, so when I spotted them on sale, I decided it was time to try them on. And when I saw that there was an additional 40% off sale items, I knew it was time to buy them. I need to add more non-denim pants to my closet, and the side stripe makes this black pair of trousers feel fresh. My initial vision was to pair them with heels and a silk blouse, but by the time Friday rolled around I was feeling a more comfortable vibe. I was also dying to wear my new oxfords, but I wasn’t quite sure if they’d work with these pants. I’m more comfortable wearing heels with certain trousers, and while it may have been more flattering to do so, I quite like the combination. A bit masculine and a little quirky? Yeah, I’m down with that. I added one of my favorite tees and layered on a few statement necklaces. To finish it off with a little color and a print, I grabbed my PS1. I’m just going to say it: I love this outfit. It’s just all very me.

Floral Manicure

While I like floral designs, they can sometimes be a little too sweet for me. And overly sweet manicures can come across juvenile, and that is something I try to avoid. Let’s be real. Nail art is a fine line for a grown woman to toe. Of course, I stray from that rule from time to time, and when I picked up this amazing green, I immediately thought of a floral design. I applied two coats before applying the lighter green with a sponge to create a grassy base. Once that dried, I applied the flowers using a dotting tool and then sealed it off with a top coat.

Happy Friday!

Big Shoes And Boyfriend Jeans

Shirt: Something Else by Natalie Wood (Mira Mira)
Jeans: Rich & Skinny (Nordstrom)
Shoes: Pencey (Gilt Warehouse Sale)
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff

This outfit started with the shoes. I snagged them at the Gilt Warehouse Sale a while ago, but just when the weather warmed up, I injured my back. One might think it goes without saying that back pain and six inch platforms don't go together. I actually tried these shoes just to test that theory. It turns out it's true. Once I was back in heel wearing shape, I quickly put a look together around the shoes. Boyfriend jeans felt like a good balance to the chunky heel, and the cutouts on the shirt seem to compliment the woven leather in an unexpected way. Of course, in these shoes I'm about eight feet tall, which was awesome until I had to stand on the bus. That was not so awesome.

Some Mondays Require A Sweatshirt

Sweatshirt: Gat Rimon (Mira Mira)
Skirt: Vince Camuto (Nordstrom)
Shoes: Sam Edelman (Piperlime)
Bag and Rings: Marc by Marc Jacobs

Yup, I wore a sweatshirt to the office. I fought it for a while, but I sort of knew it would come to this one day. Of course, back when I worked at ModCloth, wearing a sweatshirt was no big deal. I never thought twice about it. But since leaving fashion behind, it’s something I’ve (unsuccessfully) tried to avoid. Sure the world of tech is full of men in sweatshirts. How could anyone forget Zuck ringing the bell on Wall Street in a fucking sweatshirt? So I can’t say that it’s unacceptable work attire, but despite my love of sweatshirts, I just hadn’t succumbed to it. Until the day following 4th of July weekend, that is. I started with the sweatshirt, told myself I would not wear a sweatshirt to work, and tried on at least three more outfits before finally saying “fuck it” and putting the sweatshirt back on. To make it feel more work appropriate, I added a long skirt and stacked heel sandals.

Summer Polka Dot Manicure

Sally Hansen White On // Sephora by OPI Queen of Everything
I’m obsessed with black and white manicures, and I intended to another this week. But after applying a clean white base I convinced myself to mix it up. I wanted to keep the design neutral, so I steered away from colors and went with a metallic polish. This one is a favorite; I like that it can look silver or gold depending on the light. For a design, I applied tight rows of dots on every nail and finished it off with a top coat.

And, in case you missed my last post, my design for the first challenge in the Refinery29 and Revlon Nail Art Nation contest is featured on the homepage! If you have a minute, please head over and vote for my design. Thank you so much!

R29 Nail Art Nation: Challenge One

So, remember when I casually mentioned that I’m a finalist in the Revlon and Refinery29 nail art contest? Yeah, I died a little when I saw myself proclaimed as one of the 18 best nail arts over on Refinery29! I mean…me?!? I am beyond flattered, and after receiving a major haul of nail polish, I already feel like a winner!

The first challenge was to create a design that involved geometric shapes and abstract art. You can check out my design, along with the other 18 designs on the Nail Art Nation homepage. And, if you had a minute, I'd really appreciate your vote while you check out all the rad designs!

And, here's a closer look at my geometric design.

Wish me luck!

Mint And Blue

Shirt: Uniqlo
Pants: J.Crew
Shoes: Modern Vintage (Gilt)
Necklace: Forever 21
Watch: TOKYObay
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff

I know posts have been a bit sporadic these days. When life gets crazy, I have trouble finding time to dedicate to taking outfit photos and blogging. It was an exhausting few weeks leading up to the long weekend, and as I so often do, I let it show in outfit choices. So really you just missed a bunch of angsty outfits involving violent jewelry and lots of black and gray. Determined to pull myself out of my fashion funk, I vowed to wear something cheerful, and that lead me straight to these pants. And when it comes to outfits,  “cheerful” usually means “colorful” to me, I threw on my blue suede heels. Mint and bright blue might be my new favorite color combination!

Eyeball Manicure

I’m just going to come right out and say it: I love everything about this manicure. This was my first time doing an eyeball design, and I was a little worried that it wouldn’t turn out well. You see, there’s a fine line a grown ass women must toe when it comes to nail art. The last thing I wanted was a cartoonlike, googly-eyed manicure. To achieve a quirky manicure that wasn’t too over the top, I reached for subdued colors and only added a pair of eyeballs to each hand.

What do you think? Would you rock this manicure?

Again And Again

The weather was absolutely beautiful in San Francisco this weekend and I didn’t let the opportunity to wear something summery pass me by. Of course, as it so often is the case, while it was warm, it was also extremely windy. And as any SF girl knows, it makes wearing a short skirt a bit of a chore as it requires constant vigilance to hold it down. I wasn’t in the mood for that, so I quickly decided that a long skirt was the only option. This one was already out of my closet because I wore it earlier in the week, and I couldn’t resist wearing it again. This actually happens more often than the blog reveals. I get obsessed with certain pieces and wear them over and over without shame, and this skirt is definitely one of those pieces. How about you? Are you a repeat offender?
