A Prickly Print

Shirt: Something Else by Natalie Wood
Jeans: Rich & Skinny (Nordstrom)
Shoes: Pour La Victoire (My Habit)
Rings: Target
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff

Like all the other Something Else in my closet, I snagged this shirt at Mira Mira. The cactus print combined with an interesting collar combined with a pink that just so happened to match my hair at the time made it too good to pass up. Not to mention I don’t think I’ve ever left Mira Mira empty handed. Like, ever.

When it came to styling this shirt, I had only one concern – coming across as country. With the metal tipped collar and a borderline “western” print, it’s easy to go there. I’m not saying this shirt wouldn’t look cute with a pair of skinnies and cowboy boots. That’s just not me. But boyfriend jeans are definitely my style, and these wedges are my go to shoes these days. Speaking of these wedges, they were recently featured on Racked along with some seriously fabulous footwear worn by fellow SF bloggers. Check out “A Look Back at SF Bloggers' Best Shoes”!

Take Me Back

Early morning strolls on the empty beach // A perfect spot to sit and watch the sunset
A tropical spin on ceviche with coconut milk and mango // Exploring tide pools
Taking a break from the sun // A view that could never get old

It’s been a while, I know. But if you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, then you know I went on a trip to Costa Rica. It was an absolutely amazing vacation. One that I didn’t want to end and then when it did, I couldn’t bring myself to turn on a computer. You forgive me, right?

Throwback Thursday: April 2011

Photos from "One Stop Shopper"
If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you’ve surely heard me mention that I’m on vacation right now. A much needed vacation. And because there is no place that makes me happier than the beach, my vacations are usually spent at a tropical location with warm water and a slow pace. It seemed fitting to schedule a Throwback Thursday post with pictures from about two years ago when I was living in Mexico. Oh, that tan…

Galaxy Print Pants

Shirt: One Teaspoon (Mira Mira)
Pants: MADE Fashion Week for Impulse c/o Macy’s
Shoes: Pour La Victoire (My Habit)
Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs (a gift)

About a month ago, I hosted a launch party for the Macy’s x Milk Studios collaboration along with a few other San Francisco style bloggers. I styled an outfit with pieces from the collection to wear to the party, and at the end of the night, I was allowed to take an item of my choice home with me. As I perused the collection, I was immediately drawn to the galaxy print, and I not only chose these pants to wear to the party but I also brought them home with me. The print is absolutely amazing, and the pants have the perfect slouch to them. Because the print is so bold, I planned to tone the look down for the office. But my search for a white blouse lead me to this shirt, at which point I decided to go for a “school boy from outer space” look. Oops. I don’t think a galaxy print should be toned down anyhow.

Be sure to check out this story over on SF Unzipped, which includes pictures from the party!

Socks And Stripes

Top: J. Crew
Pants: Kate Spade (Nordstrom Rack)
Socks: Betsey Johnson (ModCloth)
Shoes: Nine West
Necklace: BCBG Max Azria
Bracelet: c/o Lydell NYC
Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs (a gift)

After perusing the growing collection of adorable socks at Mira Mira, I left vowing to wear socks more often. As you've likely noticed, I rarely wear socks, which is not to say that I don't have socks worth showing. I actually have a growing collection, but it seems even cute socks can be difficult to style. Though that’s not quite true. It’s not the styling part; it’s the execution. I admire quirky cool combinations of socks and heels all the time. I just never think they look as cool on me. And while I’d like to say that on this particular day I told myself to get over it, the truth is I simply ran out of time.

Is there something you admire on others but never think you can pull off? I want to hear about it!

Floral Trousers: Three Ways

| |

These floral trousers have been in steady rotation since the day I scored them on super sale from Anthropologie. I’d probably wear them more often if it weren’t for the necessary trip to the dry cleaner between each wear. I go back and forth between pairing them with my favorite basics, like a chambray button down or a sheer black top, and mixed prints and textures like lace, gingham and leather. And unlike some of my other favorite trousers, which work with either heels or flats, this pair works equally well with both. (Though from this sample of pictures, it’s clear my preference is heels.) With warmer temperatures around the corner, I look forward to pairing them with an easy white t-shirt and sandals.

What do you think? Do you prefer the floral print with neutrals or other prints?

Sweet (With A Warning)

Shirt: H&M
Tank: Banana Republic
Skirt: Zara
Tights: Hue (Nordstrom)
Shoes: Kurt Geiger
Necklace and Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs

The last few weeks have been hectic, and to make matters worse, I caught a nasty cold that stuck around for well over a week. These photos were taken just as I was starting to feel really bad and before I had accepted defeat. My last ditch attempt at convincing myself that I was not sick was to wear something light and airy and the exact opposite of what I really wanted to wear – pajamas and my favorite blanket. The combination of sheer fabrics and delicate print was a little too sweet for my liking, not to mention my sour attitude. I quickly grabbed my new favorite necklace as a warning…

Floral Manicure

Sephora by OPI Havana Dreams // Sally Hansen White On // American Apparel Neon Yellow

Oh man, it has been a long week, friends...but I’ve said that a few weeks in a row, which means that the vacation I mentioned cannot come soon enough! (Five days, but who’s counting?)

Speaking of vacation, I popped into my favorite boutique in SF – Mira Mira – a few weeks back and left with a bag full of items that I’m super excited to wear in Costa Rica. One piece - a cute little drop waist cotton dress – actually inspired this manicure. I’m so smitten with the dress that I decided to steal the simple floral print for this week’s manicure. I used a dotting tool to apply white dots and then one neon yellow dot right in the middle. This manicure is so easy that you will surely see it again soon.

Vacation Bound

| |

Let's go (on a beach vacation)!
1. Alice + Olivia Dress //  2. J.Crew Bikini top and bottom // 3. Acne T-shirt // 4. Paul Smith Denim Shorts // 5. Marc by Marc Jacobs Jelly Sandals // 6. Printed Cat Canvas Bag

I’m going to Costa Rica…next week! And, I definitely have vacation on my brain. While I always wait until the last minute to pack, I already have a section of my closet dedicated to items that will be coming with me. I’ve slowly picked them up over the last few months, and I’m excited to finally get to wear them. My travel style is always dictated by the destination. I like to blend in with the locals, which is a bit more difficult with pink hair as I learned on my trip to Baja. But when it comes to clothes, I go with casual and low key. I’m staying in a bungalow that’s literally on the beach; I probably won’t even wear shoes any of the ten days. That said, if I do, I’d love to throw on these neon jellies with studs.

I plan to spend my days in easy looks that I can throw on over a bikini – cutoffs and a tee or a cotton sundress with a tote bag. For warm evenings at a beachside restaurant, I’ll slip into easy dresses that show off sun kissed shoulders. And since this trip is to celebrate my anniversary with my partner – twelve years! – I bought a special dress for the occasion. I cannot wait.
