Tried And True

Shirt: Gap
Jeans: Rich & Skinny (Nordstrom)
Belt: H&M
Necklace: Marc by Marc Jacobs (Nordstrom)
Ring: BCBG Max Azria
Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs (Nordstrom Rack)
Shoes: Cynthia Vincent for Target
Sunglasses: Michael Kors (Nordstrom)

I’m not going to lie. I was feeling quite down this day, but I put on a brave face (and a big pair of sunglasses) and snapped outfit photos anyhow. How’s that for dedication, friends? You like that?

When I woke up after what felt like maybe five minutes of sleep, I knew exactly what I’d wear: boyfriend jeans and a button down. What can I say? It’s easy and requires absolutely no thought. I was fully dressed before I even stopped to consider what I had on, and at that point, it all came down to accessories. I sort of forgot about this necklace, but as soon as I saw it I had to wear it. I love this necklace! While I’m definitely enjoying shopping again (how did I make it ten months?), it is really fun to rediscover some of my favorite pieces.

Don’t forget to enter my Shopbop giveaway! This is the last weekend to get your entries in; the giveaway closes at 11:59 PM PST on Monday, August 1st!

Who's That Lady?

Dress: H&M
Tank: H&M
Belt: H&M
Necklace: Sloan Boutique (Portland, OR)
Ring: BCBG Max Azria
Bag: Louis Vuitton (vintage)
Shoes: Nine West
Sunglasses: Michael Kors (Nordstrom)

So, remember that amazing pleated skirt that Becca wore a few weeks back? Well, it sent me into a shopping frenzy for something (anything!) pleated, and I snagged a few items, including this dress. While it is indeed pleated, it was actually the collar that won me over. How cute is it? That, combined with delicate dots, just made me feel rather ladylike in this dress…and that’s not really something I often say. It’s not that I don’t feel feminine – definitely not! Even in my most boyish looks I always feel like a girl. But a lady? I think I swear too much for that.

I waited for the weather to allow me to wear this dress and took advantage of my first opportunity. A vintage Louis Vuitton bag and a brown braided belt felt just as classic as the dress, and my gold wishbone necklace was all the jewelry I needed. To finish it off I went with my nude wedges…because it’s apparent that I can’t stop wearing them.

Crazy Cat Lady

Shirt: Leifsdottir (Jeremy’s)
Pants: Theory (Nordstrom Rack)
Ring: BCBG Max Azria
Bracelets: Anthropologie
Bag: Treesje (Nordstrom)
Shoes: Nine West

Yes, those are definitely cats on my shirt. And, as soon as I laid eyes on it, I knew I had to have it. Did I up my crazy cat lady game in doing so? I think so. I absolutely adore this shirt. In fact, any time I caught a glimpse of it, I smiled.

Not wanting to compete with the top, I went with black on the bottom. Harem pants seem to be one of those things people either love or hate, and I happen to love them. They’re as comfortable as pajamas and they’re more interesting than my usual go-to – black skinnies. These nude wedges seem to be perfect with everything (seriously, I’ve been wearing them constantly), and I love them paired with this gray bag.

Socks And Sandals

Vest: BR Heritage
Shirt: American Apparel
Shorts: J. Crew
Bangles: Voz Clothing & Art (Renegade Craft Fair)
Bag: Marc Jacobs (Nordstrom Rack)
Socks: Gap
Shoes: Nine West

When I found these socks in the sale bin for $1.99, I immediately thought of these wedges. I also immediately bought two pairs. I love the idea of socks with sandals, but in reality, it’s just one of those looks that I like way more on others than I do on myself. This was sort of a bold move for me – choosing to cut my leg short when usually I am all about adding length. In the end, I think the mix of proportions is actually what I like most about this look. Is there something you always admire but never feel like you can pull off? I want to hear about it!

Jeans And A Tee Could Never Be Wrong

Blazer: Marc by Marc Jacobs (Nordstrom Rack)
T-shirt: American Apparel
Jeans: Rich & Skinny (Nordstrom)
Belt: Zara
Scarf: BCBG Max Azria
Shoes: Sam Edelman (Solestruck, Portland, OR)
Bag: Treesje (Nordstrom)
Ring: Shotwell (San Francisco)

When the weekend rolls around, you’ll likely find me in a t-shirt and jeans. There’s a good chance you’ll find me in this t-shirt and these jeans. What can I say? I’m a creature of habit, but I never really feel like I’m wearing the same thing. Jeans and a tee feel like a blank canvas to me; there’s so many ways to style such a classic base. For a windy day spent wandering around North Beach (and eating perhaps the best pizza I’ve had since moving to San Francisco), I went with layers. Even though it’s been a while since I’ve worn this blazer, I love it. The sweatshirt material gives it a more casual vibe than the other black blazer in my closet but I still feel polished when I put it on. To finish off the look, I added a bright scarf with a matching belt, silver flats and a slouchy bag.

How do you style up your jeans and a tee?

Happy Colors For A Dreary Day

Jacket: BB Dakota (Nordstrom Rack)
Shirt: Diane von Furstenburg (vintage)
Jeans: Levi’s (Urban Outfitters)
Shoes: BP (Nordstrom)
Ring: BCBG Max Azria
Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs (Nordstrom)

Sometimes I succumb to dreary days by dressing in colors that match the weather. Not on this day. I was so excited when I spied this DVF shirt at Wasteland and even more so when I inspected it to find that it was not only my size but also in perfect condition. With such a bold print, I went simple with black skinnies rolled up and then added some color. I immediately knew I wanted to wear my bright blue heels, but I didn’t plan on wearing this jacket…or any jacket for that matter. Once I accepted that reality, I decided to add a bit more color with this green jacket. The bright colors and zebra print kept me smiling through the drizzle – no easy feat!

$100 Shopbop Giveaway (Get some Rich & Skinny jeans of your own!)

I am thrilled to announce my first giveaway here on Style by Santina. I’ve teamed up with Shopbop to offer one very lucky reader a $100 gift certificate! While there are always way too many things that catch my eye (and wallet) on Shopbop, lately I’ve been keeping an eye on denim (like J Brand shorts, Rich & Skinny jeans, and PRPS Japan), especially since this chilly San Francisco weather has me reaching for my Rich & Skinny boyfriend jeans a little more than I’d like at this time of year. I think some pastel denim might make me feel less guilty while keeping my legs warm in July!

New Necklace, New Bracelets, New Friends

Becca's skirt sent me into a frenzy of shopping for anything with pleats! How cute is it?

Sleeveless trench: BR Heritage
Button down: Trouvé (Nordstrom)
Jeggings: Joe’s Jeans (Nordstrom)
Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell (Free People)
Necklace: Clyde’s Rebirth (Big thanks to Merl and Morgan)
Bracelets: Voz Clothing & Art (Renegade Craft Fair)
Ring: BCBG Max Azria
Sunglasses: Ray Ban (Saks)
Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs (Nordstrom)

Remember the photos I took with Marley to enter Morgan’s giveaway? Well, I’ve patiently waited until I was back to an address with regular postal service to have Merl send me this necklace. (Much to my delight she also sent along something else…but more on that in another post.) Let’s talk about this necklace – I love it! Adorned with a fish pendant and actual shells delicately strung from chains, it’s perfect for a beach girl like me!

I wore this for an afternoon spent sipping mimosas, browsing the Renegade Craft Fair and walking around North Beach with Eli and Becca (thanks for snapping these pics, ladies). I put this together quickly…because I had to. My first (half) week of work seemed to have tired me out more than I realized, and I spent most of Saturday morning lazing about the apartment. The weather was chilly and since I knew we’d be wandering around, I wore layers. I grabbed a few of my wardrobe staples (as well as a new favorite necklace) to create a casual but classic look. There’s just something about leggings and a trench that always feels chic, isn’t there?

Sour Patch Kid

Jacket: Alexander McQueen for Target
Dress: Moulinette Soeurs (Anthropologie)
Necklace: Anthropologie
Ring: Surface To Air (Shotwell)
Shoes: BCBGeneration
Bag: H&M

These pictures were taken just after a rather annoying bus experience that took about three times as long as it should have. I’ll spare you the details and simply say that it left me sour by the time I met up with my boyfriend for outfit photos followed by drinks and dinner. Speaking of the boyfriend, I really have to give him credit here. He managed to snap a few winners during the rare moments that I took the scowl off my face and plastered on a smile my while dreaming of the cocktail waiting for me.

I absolutely love this dress – the print, the cut, the fabric, all of it. It’s just one of those dresses that I know I’ll feel good (albeit sour) in. Rather than layering on a cardigan, I grabbed my gray denim jacket. The soft color is perfect with the gray tones of the dress, and the studs and shape added a little edge to this girly look. I was worried that I’d be cold without tights, but I just couldn’t bring myself to wear them in July…so I brought them in my purse, just in case!

First Day

Dress: Rodarte for Target
Cardigan: Halogen (Nordstrom)
Belt: Forever 21
Necklace: Sloan Boutique (Portland, OR)
Wedges: Nine West
Bag: Marc Jacobs (Nordstrom Rack)
Sunglasses: Ray Ban (Saks)

Deciding what to wear on the first day of a new job is never a quick decision for me…you know, first impressions and whatnot. The fact that I was starting a job with a fashion company (not to mention one that is well known by bloggers) made the decision that much tougher. If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you already know that I scored a job with ModCloth. I’m over the moon about it – a technical role in a creative environment is exactly what I wanted.

This dress wasn’t the first thing that came to mind, but as soon as I put it on, I knew it was what I wanted to wear. It’s definitely one of my favorite pieces of all the designer collaborations with Target. The shape is flattering and comfortable, and the lace print always makes me feel extra girly. I added color with a lavender cardigan and one of my favorite bags. I felt comfortable and confident, which was just what I was going for. What do you wear when you want to feel confident?

An Afternoon Of Art

Shirt: Banana Republic
Jeans: Levi’s (Urban Outfitters)
Shoes: Coach (Nordstrom Rack)
Bracelets: BCBG Max Azria and Anthropologie
Ring: Surface To Air (Shotwell)
Sunglasses: Chanel (Chanel, Boston)
Bag: See by Chloe  (a gift)

On this day, I woke up and thought, “What does a girl do the day before she starts working again after a glorious, fun-filled ten-month break?” I debated a few options: head to the beach, do a bit of shopping, drink cocktails in the middle of the day just because I could. While it all sounded fun, I decided to spend the afternoon wandering the de Young Museum with my boyfriend. I intended to finally see the Balenciaga exhibit but it ended just the day before. Luckily, it was replaced with a Picasso exhibit.

I didn’t realize it at the time, but this top is actually perfect for a date at a museum. The print reminds me of watercolors painted onto the delicate fabric. A pair of skinny black jeans balanced the billowy top, and patent flats were perfect for a day of walking (unlike my shoe choice from the day before). When it came time for accessories, I was all about silver - silver bracelets, a silver ring, and an oversized silver bag.

And with this post, friends, I say goodbye to my lazy days. The next post will be what I wore on my first day of work!

Same Same But Different

Vest: Banana Republic Heritage
Shirt: Trouvé (Nordstrom)
Shorts: Forever 21
Shoes: Cynthia Vincent for Target
Bag: Louis Vuitton (Vintage)
Sunglasses: Michael Kors (Nordstrom)

So, remember how I said I’d wear versions of this outfit over and over? Here’s example one. I took the very same sleeveless trench and white button down and added a pair of printed shorts and wedges. Ta-da! Dressed in five minutes and feeling completely pulled together, I set off for a day of wandering the neighborhood with my boyfriend. Maybe these weren’t the most practical shoes for all the walking (especially going down some of those hills!) but every time I wore these shorts in Mexico, I longed for wedges. There was no chance I was wearing flats.  Go on; tell me you'd do the same.

Bleach And Bow Ties

Sweater: H&M
Button down: Sparrow (Urban Outfitters)
Cutoffs: J. Crew
Necklace: Sloan Boutique (Portland, OR)
Shoes: Rachel Antonoff for Bass (Shoe Biz)
Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs (Nordstrom)
Sunglasses: Ray Ban (Saks)

Notice anything different about me? Yeah, I dyed my hair. With the exception of a brief moment of doubt after a few tweets from Merl, I couldn’t wait to dye my hair again. My natural color just isn’t me. I needed white hair again. What do you think? I won’t lie; I’m sort of in love with it.

This was actually the second outfit of the day. I spent most of the day wandering the seemingly endless rows of everything from spare doll limbs (creepy!) to pristine vintage clothing to gorgeous handcrafted furniture at the Alameda Flea Market with Eli. I was prepared with comfortable shoes, but I was not prepared for how hot it was outside of San Francisco! By the time we were back in the city, all I could think about was a cool shower and some fresh clothes. Enter outfit two. Once I put on my new oxfords, the rest came together with only one thought: another bow tie. I threw on this bow tie necklace and was out the door.
