Dress: French Connection
Shoes: Merona (Target)
Sunglasses: Forever 21
There’s a very easy way to identify tourists versus those of us who live here: look at what a person is wearing. It’s not board shorts or flip flops that will give it away, but anything other than minimal clothing. This dress is a prime example. Sure, it’s a cotton dress with a cool, loose shape, but while I was wandering around in middle of the day sunshine in a dress with three quarter sleeves, nearly everyone else around me was wearing much less…and still sweating.
My choice of this dress was simple: after garnering quite a bit of attention the night before, I decided to cover my anatomical heart tattoo. I realize that I chose to get a tattoo in a very visible place and it’s only normal that people would want to talk to me about it, but people are often searching for a deeper meaning. It’s a heart…on my arm…my sleeve, if you will. That’s it. So, tell me: do you have any tattoos? Do you ever want to cover them just to avoid questions?

I love this dress!! What great tropical colors! I really like your sunnies too! I have a couple tattoos but they are in places that would only be seen if I were wearing a swimsuit or in the shower. I am reluctant to get any in normally visible places because surprisingly tatttoos on women are still somewhat controversial it seems.
You look really pretty too!!

Awe wonderful post! I love French Connection. Your outfit is so fun, fresh and cool! Although I don't have any tattoos, I know where you're coming from. Completely understand.
Have a great Monday!

I really like the print on your dress. While I don't have a tattoo, I do want one. I'm such a big baby though. My name means butterfly, and I want a very realistic looking butterfly on my left shoulder blade. So it looks like you can touch it. My boyfriend has a tattoo that has a pretty deep meaning, but no one assumes it does. It's a red star with a black outline around it. His friend died tragically, and had the same tattoo.
No tattoos for me, yet. I had one designed for me about three years ago, and I LOVE the design ... but I keep wussing out on getting it actually inked on me. Maybe someday I'll feel bold enough to actually get it done.
At any rate, I am totally enamored with the pattern, shape, and the POCKETS on your dress! Might have to keep my eyes open for something like it for myself!
it looks so nice there! i cannot wait...
i have no tattoos myself, but all my siblings do. i'm too much of a wuss.
PS thank you SO MUCH for your emails and helpful responses...seriously, can't thank you enough and i'll be responding :)
Super cute!
No tats for me. I'm just too fickle.
Tattoos are such personal things that I'm always kinda surprised when someone asks me about mine. The paw prints on the inside of my wrists are actually those of a dear kitty friend that I lost a few years back, and I still get a little choked up when someone asks me about them.
Your butterfly sounds awesome! Really funny story: my mom got her first tattoo at age 68! Since my brother has soooo many and I plan to get more, she didn't want to be left out and got a butterfly on the inside of her ankle!
Thanks! I am totally in love with these sunnies, too. Can't go wrong for under $10 either!
I can't seem to resist dresses with pockets! Fingers crossed you find a dress like this one...I love it!
Thanks for commenting, Kristin!
This is a great no frills outfit! My parents are from Mexico and when we visit (perhaps because it is centrally located) we see the locals and even family trying to dress very American, they lust over American brands. Even weird Old Navy like it was Versace. Very interesting to see! And interesting as well to see your perspective from another city.
I dont have a tattoo but would like to one day, just can never decide! I think I definitely would want it somewhere you cannot see, like my ribcage.
Love that dress!
I have a tattoo that I hide as much as possible from students, their parents, and church folks - at least until they've gotten to know me. Latin America is still quite conservative regarding tattoos, especially on women, and I always want them to know me before they know me as the foreign teacher with the tattoo. So, in a way, it's more to avoid the snap judgments.
Only you would wear that much fabric in that heat. It makes me hot looking at you. :)
you have the prettiest smile, lady friend! i have one tattoo that i hide because....well, its a tramp stamp i got when i was 19. need i say more? :s the rest i love and wear with pride!
I love simple styling, especially when it involves a great statement piece, like this dress :) And the sunnies just top it off perfectly! :D
Really cute outfit! You have such a nice glow to you! :)
Re: tattoos, I have six which stay mostly covered up (unless I'm out running). When I got my half-sleeve (in honor of my deceased rabbit), I was afraid my grandmother was going to freak out so I kept my arm covered for over a year. No matter how hot it was, I wore a jacket. Even though my grandparents don't turn the air conditioner on in the summer and their house would be sweltering, I had a jacket on when I visited. I'd be drenched in sweat... but wearing a jacket. (I'm in mid mid-30s, btw, and hiding a tattoo! Lame!) Finally, my grandmother saw it by accident and she had progressed far enough with Alzheimer's that she actually said "That's very pretty! Maybe I should get one!" :p
I don't mind people asking me about my tattoos but I do mind when strangers touch them.
